No, it won't work. The reason is that the Verizon network is based on a network technology called "CDMA". In Europe, the only technology used is "GSM". The two technologies are incompatible, therefore you won't get any signal in Europe. The only phones that work in both the U.S. and Europe are those of AT&T and T-Mobile (possibly Virgin Mobile too, but who cares), who are the sole providers of "GSM" mobile networks in the U.S.
