Usually you will pay income tax to the country in which the money is earned so for you it will be Netherlands but healthcare tax should be paid to the country who provides the healthcare which is usually the country of residence.

Try the SHAPE (Nato, but I'm not sure if they have temporary contracts). Another option is the airport Bruxelles South (which is actually Charleroi). There won't be that many jobs for English-speaking people in that area, but if you don't find anything you can always commute to Brussels

If you are an American, you can forget about doing any legal work unless you are lucky enough to land something at SHAPE where the rules might be different. You will never be able to get a working card for a short time unless you can find an employer who will sponsor you on the claim that no-one else can do the job. As you have not provided any clues to your qualifications, it is difficult for me to make any other recommendations as I don't know what you are capable of. If you can find an Internet-based job where your pay could be handled via the U.S. you might have some luck. I could even put a word in with my employer if you are the right kind of person as we have that kind of work sometimes. Send me an e-mail with your CV and I could give you some additional help.

Income tax for American working in Belgium

Income tax for American working in Belgium?
Hi, I accepted an internship with an organization in Brussels. I am paid a stipend but it is not exempt from taxation. How will I be taxed? Will I pay both American and Belgian taxes?

You shouldn't have have to pay both, though you may be required to file a return in both countries. If you have a choice, pay US income taxes because the first $85,000 or so is exempt from income taxes (there are restrictions & requirements). http://www.software.com/page/135/us-citizens-working-overseas-faq

KayeOO I would contact the IRS office near you and ask them your question or go to the American Embassy and as those people how they get they get the situation resolved.Good Luck and Rock on in Belgium.

There's no preferential rate for expats in Belgium. Belgian income taxes are some of the highest in Europe, averaging over 55% when their Social Security tax is included.

Same as always.
