No, but it will make finding a job very difficult if you don't speak either of these languages. In other words, you would need to have qualifications that are in high demand but are hard to find in Belgium. If you only speak French, you could possibly find a job in the South, and if you only speak Dutch, a job in the North. Of course, if you only speak one of the two, having the right credentials and qualifications will probably still be an important factor in finding a job. As unemployment is lower in the North, if you have to choose between the two, go for Dutch. Though it can't hurt to learn French as well. Being able to speak both languages however will make it a lot easier to find a job anywhere in the country. Especially in Brussels were many jobs require you master both sufficiently enough to handle customer relations.
